Our mission is to develop successful lifelong readers by encouraging children’s love of reading and learning.

Rolling Readers of the Midlands is a non-profit organization that encourages a love of reading among children through our read aloud program, book give-aways, and tutoring.

We focus our resources on those who need them most. The majority of those we serve are low-income and underserved youth in Title One schools, shelters, after-school programs, and child development centers.

During the 2011-2012 school year, Rolling Readers served over 6,000 students through the work of over 250 volunteers.

Our Programs

Read Aloud: Our volunteers read aloud to groups of children in schools around the Midlands.

Teen Volunteers: We train high school classes – including Teacher Cadet and international Baccalaureate programs – how to conduct read aloud sessions. They are then able to partner with elementary schools and reach out to younger students.

Book Giveaway: Rolling Readers gives brand new books to all the children we serve. And for some of these kids, it's the first book in their library.

Some of our books ready to be distributed to students around Richland and Lexington counties.

This program couldn't exist without the support of the people and organizations in the community. Find out how you can support Rolling Readers.
